Media
woes continue: Even after
about a year of the peace
process in Nepal, attacks on journalists have not eased.
February
2005 to April 2006: King Gyanendra instituted emergency
measures, suspended
civil liberties, curbed media freedoms, and seized
absolute power on
February 1/05 in the pretext of quelling an ever-emboldening Maoist
“terrorism” and political corruption in Nepal. His direct rule ended on April
24, 2006, the day he restored the parliament dissolved on May 22, 2002.
